Connect@RIT Workshops Presented at Faculty Institute of Teaching and Learning
At the close of the academic year RIT hosts the Faculty Institute on Teaching and Learning (FITL), an event that offers opportunities to network, present, and learn through workshops, seminars, and speakers. For the 2013 FITL, the Connect@RIT leadership team presented two workshops and hosted an expo booth to engage faculty and build awareness about the project across disciplines. The theme for this year's FITL focused on unlearning -- examining those attitudes, beliefs, and habits that may prevent faculty from progressing on their goals. The sessions also offered opportunities for rejuvenation and transformation. Given Connect@RIT's goal of institutional transformation, the collaboration among Connect Leadership Team members and the Wallace Center (FITL organizers) made perfect sense. The first presentation provided an introduction to the project and engaged participants in a discussion on faculty development needs. The second presentation was an interactive learning session about the power of networking and leveraging social network resources. The team was excited about building awareness in such a hands-on way and plans to collaborate on future faculty development initiatives offered through the Wallace Center.
