Area colleges seek to expand the reach of STEM
Progress has been made at UR and Rochester Institute of Technology in attracting female faculty and students to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) disciplines, but the numbers are still low, as they are nationwide.
"It is the shrinking pipeline. You start out with not that many. It keeps dropping off," said Wendi Heinzelman, dean of the Hajim School of Engineering and Applied Sciences at the University of Rochester.
